  • Background Information

    CGA-7™ is an extract of Coffea arabica bean produced by Vidya Herbs, Inc. Coffea arabica is also referred to as Arabian coffee, or simply as coffee. Coffee is enjoyed as a beverage worldwide, largely due to the stimulating properties due to its caffeine content. The roasting process naturally darkens coffee beans; therefore, beans that have not undergone roasting and are instead used for phytonutrient extraction retain their original green color.

    Dried green coffee beans are procured directly from Vidya's own coffee estate in Chikmagalur, India where Vidya harvests its own coffee berries and then separates the beans from the fruit and dries them. The dried beans then undergo ethanolic extraction and spray drying, resulting in the finished CGA-7 powder extract. The extraction process occurs at Vidya's state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Bangalore, India.

    Early research by Vidya Herbs examined the mechanisms by which CGA-7 works. A preclinical trial suggested that CGA-7 increases the catabolism (breakdown) of free fatty acids (FFA) through the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK).'

    In a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial, 60 overweight (BMI ≥ 25.0 to < 30.0 kg/m?) adults were administered either 250 mg of CGA-7 or a placebo twice daily before a meal for 12 weeks.? Results indicated that the CGA-7 group saw a significant decrease in body weight, BMI, % body fat and triglycerides as compared to the placebo (p < 0.001).
