When you think of sunflowers, weight management might not be the first thing that comes to mind. But nestled within the seeds of the Helianthus annuus, also known simply as the sunflower, lies a potent extract known as Sun-CA™. This novel compound, developed and produced by Vidya Herbs, Inc., harnesses the sunflower's innate ability to target adipogenesis, aiding in the quest for a healthier physique.

  • Origin & Processing

Helianthus annuus, primarily cultivated for its seeds, finds its roots across the globe, where it's enjoyed both as a nutritious snack and as a primary source for sunflower seed oil. For the creation of Sun-CA™, sunflower seeds are carefully procured straight from the sun-drenched fields of southern India. Once harvested, these seeds embark on a transformative journey at Vidya's cutting-edge manufacturing facilities in Bangalore. Through a meticulous process involving both alcohol and water extraction, followed by state-of-the-art spray drying techniques, Sun-CA™ emerges as a powder extract, brimming with potential.

  • How Sun-CA™ Tackles Weight Management

In a world constantly searching for the next breakthrough in weight management, Sun-CA™ stands out due to its unique mechanism of action. Pioneering research by Vidya Herbs reveals that Sun-CA™ actively targets the formation of fat cells, or adipocytes. It achieves this by down-regulating specific proteins responsible for adipogenesis, notably peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-y) and CAT/enhancer-binding protein alpha (CEBP-a).

  • Clinical Evidence: Sun-CA™ Proven Benefits

But Sun-CA™ isn't just built on theory – it's backed by science. In a rigorous, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 46 adults with a BMI between 30 and 40 kg/m^2, the results were revealing: Participants who took 250 mg of Sun-CA™ twice daily before meals over a 12-week period experienced a significant reduction in both BMI and waist circumference compared to those on the placebo (p < 0.05). This affirms Sun-CA™'s potential as a formidable ally in weight management strategies.

  • Background Information

SUNCA™* is an extract of Helianthus annuus seed produced by Vidya Herbs, Inc. Helianthus annuus is also referred to simply as sunflower. Sunflower is grown around the world, primarily for its seeds which can be consumed as a snack or as a source of sunflower seed oil for various culinary and nutraceutical applications.

Sunflower seeds are procured directly from southern India. The seeds undergo extraction using both alcohol and water, followed by spray drying, resulting in the finished SUNCA powder extract. The extraction process occurs at Vidya's state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Bangalore, India.

Early research by Vidya Herbs examined the mechanisms by which SUNCA works. The research suggested that SUNCA reduces adipogenesis (the formation of fat cells which are also referred to as adipocytes) through the downregulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-y) and CAT/enhancer-binding protein alpha (CEBP-a).'

In a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial, 46 adults (BMI between 30 and 40 kg/m?) were administered either 250 mg of SUNCA or a placebo twice daily before a meal for 12 weeks.? Results indicated that the SUNCA group saw a significant decrease in both BMI and waist circumference as compared to the placebo (p < 0.05).
